This weeks learning module talked about the various resources that are available to teachers on the Internet. Although I had used a few, the vast majority of them were new to me. I have used Purdue's website to look for APA citation information but not for lesson plans.
After being in this class for the past 9 weeks or so, I often wonder why all library students aren't required to take this class. I often tell them about the resources we have learned about and then they go check them out. For me, I see the usefulness of these websites in all types of libraries not just school libraries.
Check out the Discovery Education website which does not require a log in. There is clip art, a puzzle maker, and more.

I agree that a course like 611 would be useful to everyone. I would worry about opening 611 itself up to all types of librarians though. If the focus is taken off of K-12 schools, the course might turn into something like 618, which is so far removed from schools that it is a waste of time for school media students, who could actually use a "Copyright/ Fair Use in Schools" course instead. Other students should definitely have the opportunity to take a version of 611 though-- It is by far the most interesting class I have taken in the program, and definitely one of the most useful!!!
Also, thanks for pointing out the many components of the Discovery Education site. I have only used the site to access Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators (which I LOVE for finding helpful websites in certain subject areas), but I now see that there are many other areas to explore! :)
I agree that this course more than most has taught me a lot about the resources available to librarians who are focused on Media and Technology.
I also learned about where to go for information and why I should use that source compared to another. Even though I already possess a Certificate in Information Technology, I have learned so much more about it and how it relates to being a librarian in this class :-)
techlearner,
Many of the mainstream courses that we are required to take for our program I have found to be irrelevant to school media. I don't think they need to be but just the way they are organized. Your suggestion of offering a course similar to 611 is a good idea and should probably be suggested to one of the professors.
I haven't yet taken 618 but a course in copyright would definitely be helpful. I don't know how many times I have been in a classroom with students who are copying directly from the source.
Ace,
Many students have complained that some of the core courses are something that they are already familiar with from work experience and they would like to be exempted from taking the class. It is good to know that this class has been helpful for you even with a Certificate in Information Technology.
I will try to post links that are relevant and interesting.
