In researching Second Life, I have learned that there is still a lot more to learn. What better place to go than SL. I still haven't joined up but maybe someday I will have time to have a SL but right now my first life is keeping me incredibly busy.
This week, I found a wiki that talks about virtual worlds including SL and their uses in education. In SL, you can listen to a lecture, attend a concert, or visit a library. Did you know that in 2006 Harvard even offered a course that used SL and other Web 2.0 tools? How cool is that!!!
I am beginning to see why libraries have jumped on the band wagon and created spaces in SL. For me with aspirations to be in an elementary school library media center one day, I am not sure that SL will play a large role in my life. But if I do end up in a middle or high school and they don't already have one, I just might start an after school Second Life Club!

The Harvard class looks very interesting! I also enjoyed reading the wiki and the list of creative uses of SL in education. It's cool that SL is used for helping people learn new languages too.
I too am amazed at the breadth of uses for SL. When I first started this topic, I was skeptical; although I don't see myself joining any time son, I can see its usefulness.
What would the SL club do?
I'm not quite sure I -get- Second Life just yet.
If the club I started was in a middle or high school, I would purchase space in Teen Second Life. Before the students would be allowed to create anything in TSL, I would discuss with them what wouldn't and would be allowed and together the group would plan what they want their space to look like. It would be their responsibility to actually implement the plan.
The students would have to sign an agreement stating that they would provide a tour of TSL at any time and to any place that I request (since adults aren't allowed to wander around TSL). Hopefully this would prevent the students from creating objects that are against the standards that we have agreed to.
